Far from Iran, close to our sisters

When Anahid, 23, left for Iran for the first time in March 2022, she didn't know it would be the last time she would see her country as it was then. She didn't know that her voice, like that of her father, an Iranian poet who sought political refuge from the 1979 Islamic revolution, would echo the fight for freedom. In Iran, with her friend Juliette, a journalist, they recorded their entire journey: from Tehran to Isfahan, from Yazd to Chimeh, the village where Anahid's father grew up. To preserve memories of the encounters, voices, and sounds of the country.

Six months after their return, these rushes would take on a whole new meaning. When Anahid heard "Woman, Life, Freedom" for the first time, she sensed that her personal story had collided with the greater history unfolding around her. She committed herself to using her voice, alongside other Iranians in exile, to echo the revolution.

September 16, 2022: The death of Mahsa Jina Amini, arrested and murdered by the morality police in Tehran for wearing her headscarf improperly, sets the country ablaze. It is the beginning of an unprecedented feminist revolution: women fighting for freedom, men joining them.

Slate Audio's opinion

"The first podcast by Anahid Djalali and Juliette Pierron-Rauwel, Loinde l'Iran, près de nos sœurs(Far from Iran, closeto our sisters)takes us on a journey of identity discovery with a young French woman of Iranian origin, illustrating how politics permeates our private lives. What is it like to live in a country governed by Islamic law? How can we overthrow the regime that killed Mahsa (Jina) Amini (and so many others) with impunity? What do Iranians dream of, whether they live in their country or are in exile? Over the course of five episodes, we discover the power of anger, the pain of exile, and the different threads that weave together contemporary Iranian identity. A magnificent documentary, awarded at the Paris Podcast Festival 2023.

Shame on you

BLACK DAY

JOUR NOIR is the story of a black man who, on his 30th birthday, asks himself the question of fatherhood: "Am I ready to become a father?" He senses that his hesitation to become one is linked to the social experiences that his skin color leads him to live. He then offers us an experiment: to spend a day with him in public spaces.
