Hitler's Watch

The most ordinary objects can hold poisonous secrets...

In May 1990, Mia lost her grandfather, a World War II veteran; she learned that he had possessed Adolf Hitler's personal watch. Had he hidden it somewhere? In any case, he left Mia a diary, that of the Führer's aide-de-camp. The young girl, an aspiring actress, accompanied by one of her grandfather's war comrades, sets out in search of the watch, which arouses much envy around her...

Meanwhile, Hans, a student from Berlin, is also conducting his own investigation. He is the grandson of Hitler's aide-de-camp. From Paris to Berchtesgaden, Berlin to Lausanne, Poland to Maryland, and back in time, a mad dash takes the two young people on a race against and for time.

Excerpt

The doorbell broke the silence like a blast of cold air. Mia wondered what the concierge had to tell her. Unless it was Inspector Favier, with an armful of legal formalities wrapped in awkward condolences. When she opened the door, she couldn't help but recoil at the sight of the tall, angular figure standing before her. The face was stern but friendly, beneath a gray hat that a gloved hand quickly removed. A character from the 1950s had appeared in 1990.

"I apologize for disturbing you at such a difficult and solemn time. I must confess that I have been following you since the cemetery... My name is Raymond Thadée. I fought alongside your grandfather during the war. Please accept my deepest condolences...

May I come in for a moment?
