JOUR NOIR is the story of a black man, Sikou Niakate, who, on his 30th birthday, asks himself the question of fatherhood: “Am I ready to become a father?”
He senses that his hesitation is due to his skin color. We then dive with him into a deep and intimate overview. During a normal day in the streets of Paris, where seemingly banal situations follow one another (walking, shopping, taking the metro, having a coffee on the terrace…), he records himself and tells of the permanent control he has over his body, his behavior, the way he dresses, the way he speaks and moves, in order to not correspond to the terrible stereotypes attributed to black people. Everything will be – from the inside – looked at, dissected, expressed. Does he want to – can he – pass all this on to his child?
