Burgundy is a rural region. One might therefore think that it is safe from delinquency. And yet, like everywhere else in France, it has to deal with youth gangs. To stop them, the gendarmes. Military at all times. When things get too hot, it’s the PSIG, the elite unit that intervenes. Its objective: to neutralize the most dangerous individuals.
With 600 interventions per year, their activity increased by 18% in 2018.
The other mission of the gendarmes of Burgundy, the tracking of reckless drivers.
Their hunting ground, the A31, one of the busiest highways in France. Faced with major road offenders, the gendarmes of Burgundy are equipped to counter attack. At their disposal, a 275-horsepower megane RS that goes over 230 km in a few seconds.
More surprisingly, and this is a particularity of Burgundy, the gendarmerie has to face a new type of delinquency: the theft of vines.
Because here, the bunches of grapes are worth their weight in gold. It is the raw material of great wines such as Musigny, Montrachet or Romanée Conti.
